American Steam Truck Co. Chicago, Ill. ca: 1918 - 1920 American Steamer 1922 – 1924 The American Steam Truck Co. Chicago, IL, & Elgin, IL Only 16 of these cars were built in 1922, an additional cheaper model being unsuccessfully added to the line a year later. The car featured a 2-cylinder compound double-acting motor and was capable of a speed in excess of 60 mph. The prototype was tested as early as 1918 but neither the exhaustive testing nor the Lincoln-appearing condenser saved it from bankruptcy. A touring car, roadster, coupe, and sedan were available.[1] [1] Georgano, G. N., Encyclopedia of American Automobile, (New York, E. P. Dutton & Co., 1968), p. 18. This large mailing piece folds out to reveal information on both the company's trucks and automobiles. It is accompanied by a three-page, poorly copied letter. Not exactly the most appealing marketing piece. The Steam Automobile Club of America (SACA) has reprinted this brochure. Go to its web site to buy a copy.
